OSBA Media Honor Roll accepting nominations

The Ohio School Public Relations Association appreciates our partners including the Ohio School Boards Association. We encourage you to consider nominating area journalists to the OSBA Media Honor Roll. Please read this message from OSBA senior editorial manager Gary Motz.

The Ohio School Boards Association is inviting school districts to select journalists to recognize for the 2020 OSBA Media Honor Roll program. The purpose of the program is to recognize reporters, editors and media outlets for reporting fairly and accurately on their communities’ schools.

The OSBA Media Honor Roll recognizes media representatives in print, radio and television. School districts should select journalists who:
  •  work to get to know the superintendent, board president and district communication director, as well as the district’s mission and goals;
  •  report school news in a fair, accurate and balanced manner;
  •  give a high profile to positive news about schools;
  •  visit schools;
  •  maintain a policy of “no surprises,” by always giving school officials the opportunity to comment on information to be aired or published.
You may select as many media representatives or outlets that you feel deserve this recognition. OSBA will send personalized certificates in October that can be presented to journalists at a future board meeting. A list of winners will appear in the October OSBA Journal magazine and on the association’s website.

For more information on the program, as well as a link to an online selection form; postal mail/fax/email selection form; sample news release; and sample board resolution, visit https://www.ohioschoolboards.org/osba-media-honor-roll. The submission deadline is Sept. 11.

The Media Honor Roll is designed to improve districts’ relationships with the news media and promote fair and accurate reporting on their schools. I strongly encourage you to participate, and look forward to receiving your selections.
